The Institute for Global Health and Development
The Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) at Queen Margaret University is a multidisciplinary centre for postgraduate teaching and research addressing pressing global health and development challenges. With over 30 years of experience, IGHD has built a strong track record in advancing socially relevant research and practice across low- and middle-income countries, as well as diverse global contexts, with more than 500 graduates working across the health, development and humanitarian sectors worldwide.
Our teaching and research are grounded in partnership, equity and real-world impact. We collaborate with communities, policymakers, practitioners, NGOs and international organisations across the Global North and South to address complex challenges including health systems strengthening, migration and displacement, mental health and psychosocial support, sexual and reproductive health and rights, climate change, and social inequalities.
IGHD brings together diverse students and experts in dynamic, collaborative learning environments that emphasise active learning, critical thinking and practice-oriented approaches. Through innovative MSc programmes - with on-campus and online options - and research degrees, we equip global health professionals with the knowledge, skills and networks to become effective agents of change in policy, practice and research.
